The metropolis of Taipei is one of the most advanced cities in Asia and will also be relying on technology from Austria for wastewater treatment in the future: As part of a comprehensive modernisation programme, a total of 3,168 AEROSTRIP® strip diffusers from AQUACONSULT Anlagenbau GmbH in Traiskirchen are currently being installed at the Dee Hwa Central Wastewater Treatment Plant in the Datong District. The entire renovation project for the plant on the banks of the Tamsui River will be carried out in four phases until 2032. The aim is to increase energy efficiency, further improve water quality and reduce emissions in a sustainable manner.
"We are delighted that Dee Hwa, one of the largest and most modern plants in the region, has placed its trust in our technology. This shows that AEROSTRIP® is considered the benchmark for efficiency and operational safety in wastewater treatment plants not only in Europe, but also in many other highly technological metropolitan regions around the world," says Gerald Glaninger, Managing Director of AQUACONSULT Anlagenbau.
Conversion to highly efficient strip diffusers
A total of 72 basins at Dee Hwa are being converted to AEROSTRIP® Type T diffusers. These replace the surface diffusers previously used and ensure significantly higher oxygen transfer while reducing energy consumption.
The underground facility treats 500,000 m³ of wastewater per day and has its own water recycling system. The unusual basin height of ten metres presented the planners with a particular challenge: in order to achieve the required oxygen transfer rate (SOTR) and relieve the turbo blowers, the diffusers were positioned 0.6 metres above the basin floor. The unique structure was pre-assembled and simulated at the factory in Traiskirchen.
Austrian engineering for global challenges
The project was managed and implemented by Neuhold GmbH from Gleisdorf, a company that has been operating successfully on the Taiwanese market for many years. Even the initial partial operation of a tank converted to AEROSTRIP® delivered ‘excellent results,’ as Managing Director Martin Neuhold reports. ‘The customer's nitrogen issues have been solved and the energy efficiency is excellent.’ The plant is expected to be fully operational by spring 2026 and realise the full efficiency gains.
‘The combination of Austrian engineering, international project experience and local implementation expertise is a decisive success factor, as this project proves,’ emphasises Gerald Glaninger. ‘This ensures that even large-scale projects such as Dee Hwa can be implemented on schedule and with the highest quality.’
Innovative technology – global success story
With the project in Taipei, AQUACONSULT confirms its role as a technology partner for the world's largest wastewater treatment plants, such as the three wastewater treatment plants in Copenhagen (Lynetten, Damhusåen and Avedore) and the Western Treatment Plant in Melbourne (Australia). AEROSTRIPs are now used in more than 2,500 industrial and municipal wastewater treatment plants around the world. The strip diffusers from Traiskirchen impress with their maximum energy efficiency, durability and consistently high operational reliability – properties that are particularly in demand in times of increasing demands on water quality and climate protection.

AEROSTRIP® strip diffusers from AQUACONSULT Anlagenbau GmbH are currently in use in more than 2,500 industrial and municipal wastewater treatment plants worldwide. Thanks to ongoing research and development work and regular performance tests, the strip diffuser manufactured by AQUACONSULT under the name AEROSTRIP® can today be regarded as one of the most efficient representatives of fine-bubble deep diffusers. The AEROSTRIP® is manufactured exclusively at the company's Austrian headquarters in Traiskirchen (Lower Austria), where around 40 people are employed. AQUACONSULT Anlagenbau GmbH was founded in 1986 as a manufacturer of fine-bubble deep diffusers and became part of SANKI Engineering Co., Ltd. in 2006. AQUACONSULT's international partner companies have extensive engineering expertise and experience in aeration technology.
